Vehicle Description 1966 Chevelle Malibu Build Date 07 B = July 2nd week 66-13617FL1 = 1966 model year, 2 door Sport Coupe 8 Cylinder, Flint Michigan Assy plant 25241 = Production Sequence Code 761-A = Black Vinyl Bench Seat interior, Code K - 2 = Artesian Turquoise Metallic with Black Vinyl Roof I consider this a Survivor quality car, but without the original driveline.
Appears all original sheet metal great condition, no patches.
The paint appears mostly original except for the hood and some older touch up.
The hood had repairs to the front lip.
The vinyl roof has been very nicely replaced, it is an original black vinyl roof car according to the cowl trim tag.
The car has been in Ohio since new.
It was undercoated when new and I suspect never driven much in the winter, if at all.
The sheet metal - quarters, outer and inner wheel housings, fenders, cowl, floor, and trunk pan is near perfect, door seams are perfect.
According to the one original document I have, the Dealer Delivery sheet, it was a 327/275hp 4-barrel engine, Saginaw 4 speed car.
I believe it to be an original bench seat 4 speed car.
I did replace the floor shifter hump because it was cut up at some point to most likely allow for shifter access.
It also had a 10 Bolt 3.
08 Posi rear gear originally.
I bought the car to complete a full body off restoration inclusive of upgrading the Engine and Transmission.
The car, in my opinion, should be left as a survivor quality body and paint.
It's great looking and presentable and I can't bring myself to change it.
The engine, transmission and rear end were changed by previous owner(s).
It had a 1968 327 Muncie M20 4 spd from a Corvette in it when I bought the car.
I bought an original 1966 Chevelle 396/375 EG engine in great condition in March 2012.
I had my engine builder (Gellner Engineering in Cleveland, OH) completely rebuild the engine (and is documented) in October 2013.
The engine had the original bore, pistons, rods, crank, cam, and heads when I purchased it and in good rotating condition.
I had it bored.
030 with new TRW 11:
1 pistons, and heads completely rebuilt.
The crank was ground.
010 on all journals.
The engine pad is untouched with original legible stamping.
I bought as many original closely dated parts as possible.
Intake, Carb, Water pump, Exhaust manifolds, etc.
The distributor is from an original 70 Chevelle SS 454 car.
